The North Pacific Gyre & Pacific North West

23RD JUNE - 28TH JULY 2018

A challenging voyage of three thousand nautical miles from Hawaii to Vancouver to Seattle through the densest ocean plastic accumulation zone on the planet, known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and exploring remote coastlines for plastic pollution.

The mission brought two crews of 14 amazing women together on board and collected data and samples for partner scientists all over the world. We held outreach events in Vancouver and Victoria, and clean ups in Hawaii, Vancouver and on the remote Broken Islands in British Columbia. Extensive media coverage from the mission helped shape raise awareness of the true problem of mircoplastics and that clean up alone is not the answer. You can take a look at our science plan here.
