Barbados to St Lucia
Leg 20
This voyage provides an amazing opportunity to study the issue of plastic pollution and marine debris at an island scale. Starting in Barbados, we will explore the waste issues and litter on land before stepping on board and sailing to the Grenadines, and then onwards to Saint Lucia. Whilst at sea we will be able to carry out our scientific research, trawling the surface for microplastics and even analysing some of these samples on board. We will be able to work together to discuss our findings and suitable solutions to this global issue.
As we approach the reef-lined islands of the Grenadines we will be treated to turquoise blue waters, and a plethora of marine life. Stepping ashore we will be able to explore and compare the issue of marine waste in the Grenadines compared to Barbados.
We will sail from the Grenadines towards Saint Lucia where we will be treated to vistas of high peaks and rainforests as well as and abundance of marine life due to the unique coral reefs. When we reach land, we will share our story and findings with the local population as part of our outreach programme.
