Jatta is a performance psychologist and a researcher with a passion for reducing climate change. She is starting her PhD at the beginning of 2020 on emotional abuse by coaches in sports environments. Thus, her expertise lies in psychology and human performance. However, through concerning reports, documentaries and personal experience she has become increasingly interested in using her skills to research how people could be influenced to reduce their carbon footprint. Recently, she has been especially heartbroken to see blue-green alga increase in Finland’s biggest lake, Saimaa, as a consequence of climate change. Therefore, during Leg 11 of Exxpedition from Tonga to Fiji she is especially interested in working with local organizations on how to make people work together in productive ways to reduce plastic in the ocean. She is hoping that her experience as an ex-athlete in synchronized (ice) skating will be useful in facing various challenges during the voyage!
